Phillip Phillips Whats Next After American Idol

Phillips was born in Leesburg, Georgia, the son of Sheryl (née LaDon) and Phillip Phillips, Sr. He grew up in Sasser and Leesburg, and attended Lee County High School, where he worked at a pawn shop. Dreaming of stardom, he travelled to Savannah for his American Idol audition, performing an animated rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” that made Steven Tyler swoon. After being crowned winner on Wednesday night, the bluesy guitarist with a John Mayer-esque voice broke down in tears and performed a song called—go figure— “Home.”
So just how bad was Phillip feeling during his run on Idol?
"I had some bad days and I had some pretty good days. It was rough at times and there were a couple of times I thought about going ahead and getting out and getting the surgery done," Phillip says. "But I had a lot of great doctors and a lot of great people who helped me out through it. I'm blessed to have that. I came close to almost dropping out to get the surgery done, but my doctors helped me out a lot through it."

Jessica Sanchez said America Enjoys Male Singers

Jessica Sanchez American Idol Season 11 Runner-up

"I never thought I was going to win," she told MTV News. "And I think at that moment, during the finale, I knew I wasn't going to win, and I was like, 'Let me just sing my songs, let me have fun, let me be in this moment.' Even making it to the finale surprised me. You saw my face!"
Jessica Sanchez Musical Style: Rhihanna, Michael Jackson, Etta James, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Beyonce
"It was confusing, because it was the winning song, and you try to pick a song that you'd want to put out as a single but also that would sound good when you won the competition. ... I felt like I had to sing a vocally strong song but also one that was kind of mainstream, and that was in the middle, kind of," she explained. "And even listening to it, I was telling them, 'Some things have to be changed in this, because this is not completely me.' And when we did that, nothing was really that changed, and that's why it came out like a pop single. I totally agree with Randy [ Jackson]: That song was not me at all. I want to do pop, but, like, just a sprinkle of it, not a whole bucket."

" 'American Idol' isn't fixed. It really is America, and if America enjoys [male singers], then they do. I'm just here to please my fans, and make music for them. Now that the competition is over, I can do that and be happy with that," she said. "But it's definitely one thing that pushed me to want to really win. ... I was doing it for my family, I was doing it for myself because I loved it, but I just wanted a girl to win this year so bad — even if it wasn't me. It could've been Hollie [Cavanagh] or Skylar [Grey]. But I was just like, 'We gotta show that girl power!' "

Phillip Phillips Survives Surgeries - American Idol Season 11

Phillip Phillips Underwent Surgeries

Phillip Phillips underwent eight surgeries during the american idol competition. The 21-year-old, guitar-clutching heartthrob from Leesburg, Ga., has been suffering from a "kind of not functioning" right kidney since day one, so he's gonna want to get that taken care of before he starts cutting records.
Phillips Sr. said his son suffered from a build-up of kidney stones and had to have multiple surgeries to remove them. The new champ is expected to undergo another surgery to reconstruct his kidneys, according to People. "The recovery's probably two to four weeks," his father said. "He's healthy, he's good. His kidneys are good. I can't wait for America and the whole world to see him [after his surgery], because he's a big cut-up. He's going to have some fun."
Phillip Phillips said "I'm going to get some surgery done, so I'm going to get all better for the tour,", "It was very tough [getting through the season]. I had great doctors and great people surrounding me [who] really helped out, so it's just a blessing to be here."

American Idol Judges Comment

“I couldn’t think of any other singer or band you sounded like…That was a Phillip Phillips song and there’s nothing on the radio that sounds like that,”
“By virtue of your vulnerability and style you have made the world your home my friend,” Tyler begins to prattle happily. “I heard a little Paul Simon, and other ungodlike creatures on this planet, and you were perfect tonight. And I think you are The Man,” he adds. “I said from the first, I thought he’d win, only because he’s so vulnerable. I think he’s going to be a movie star. I don’t know why, but I just think that, but I look at his face and I see James Dean,” Tyler said.
